When you are creating or updating your website you must take into consideration the site design and usability. All too often this is overlooked which leads to a fabulous site that can not be navigated or a usable site that is bland.

A website design should captivate the visitor’s attention but be easy to use. A search box should be placed for easy navigation and searches, if possible, should not turn up long lists of info to go through but to a simple link or page. People that find the usability of a site too hard will leave without buying and will not return.

Creating the perfect balance between design and usability does not have to be hard. You can make an impact without being over complicated.

Once your site is up, track the information carefully right from the start:
- How many visits?
- How many internal searches?
- Look to see what is being said about your site on the SM networks.
If there are problems with your site you will find it here.

Website design and usability can achieve a perfect balance when you take the time to adjust the site to fit the needs of your customers.

Link building increases traffic to websites. There are nine basic ways for beginners to generate links to websites.

(1) Contracts
Include a link building requirement in any new contract agreement with a business partner.

(2) Online Advertisement
Promote sites through conventional public relations on the internet. Some examples include news directories, magazine editors, etc.

(3) Blog
Blogs are an easy way to recruit links. Become familiar with SEO and tags.

(4) Blog Commenting
This method involves building links by creating friendships on frequently commented blogs aka viral network building.

(5) Implement RSS feeds
Publish, then syndicate articles regularly through an RSS feed. This increase link exposure. Roughly twenty RSS feed directories can be submitted daily, each of which generates a link.

(6) Submit to Quality Directories
Choose quality directories, such as the Open Directory Project, and send in listings to them.

(7) Write Reviews
Build links on product review sites like Alexa, Amazon, ePinions, etc.,

(8) Buy and Request Links
Request text link ads and use the templates for writing the correct link requests.

(9) Classified Ads

Post ads on websites like CraigsList, Kijiji and USFreeAds. There are plenty of link building opportunities on job sites and local and national newspaper sites.

SEO is all about keywords. Search engines use keywords to to direct traffic to websites. If you use the wrong keywords you wont get the desired traffic or exposure for your website, blog or content. SEO uses keywords that are specific to a site and helps rank a site with search engines. You want to have your site listed on the first page that a search engine pulls up as most people will not search past the first page.

Understanding what SEO is will help you in determining how to use it. SEO is keywords that describe your content. If you content is about butterflies you would want to use keywords that are related to or describe butterflies. Keywords you could use could be Monarch, cocoon, metamorphosis, swallowtail or caterpillar to name just a few. You want the best descriptive keywords that relate to your content to optimize your sites ability to rank high in the search engines.

At the end you just need to choose wisely your keywords in your content.
